Blackleaf's journey began through an offhand encounter in the town of Cognac, France, when its visionary Founder and Washington, DC resident Kevin Larkai, was on vacation. During the trip, fate had him cross paths with a professional soccer player married to a woman there and had become somewhat of a local celebrity. This chance encounter introduced Kevin to Bertrand Laclie, the esteemed owner of Maison Rene Laclie, a fifth-generation Cognac house and an undeniable master of his craft. In a moment of inspiration, Kevin, a dreamer at heart, forged a distillation partnership with Bertrand to give birth to an extraordinary vodka, unlike anything else on the market and Blackleaf Organic Vodka was born.
Kevin, a former finance professional, joined forces with Monté Burrow, a former operations and marketing leader for the worlds largest spirits company, to build a brand where their passion for quality spirits comes through in every sip. Together, they embarked on a mission to propel the brand to new heights and establish a thriving business around their remarkable product.

1889! That is over 120 years ago, well before any of our times. Lucky for us Rene Laclie was a young man who became interested in the art of cognac distillation. He was passionate about perfecting his craft and went on to build a reputation as one of the finest distillers. Five generations later, this pursuit of excellence in the art of distillation still continues. This heritage along with innovation is part of the Maison Rene Laclie DNA today.
Fun fact: In 1889 France organized the World Fair and debuted the Eiffel Tower. The spirit of innovation was in full effect from Paris to Cognac, France.
